Current opinions on Pellegrini
Obviously west ham need to build upon the good dominant win against burnley but im keen to see what the general consesus of the boss at the moment

IMO I think he's doing a great job given change of football style, number of new players coming in, the injuries and hard run of games to start the season

hopefully in january he will sign more of his own choices and let go those he doesnt want

Was always going to be difficult to come in and change styles/ mentality and with 9 or 10 new first team squad members to settle in too.

he inherited a shit squad, it will take more than one transfer window to transform the team but at least he's trying to get us to play decent football unlike the jock allardyce, moyes

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
I'm liking most of the signs that I'm seeing.

It's hard to keep up with the bipolar views on here, we were going to challenge for the top 4 according to some before a ball was kicked, the after 4 games we have a manager worse than Avram Grant.

The man has won the PL, managed Real Madrid, he is the real deal. Unfortunately, he has co.e into a club that needed such a huge change from top to bottom, and it was always gonna be hard. What I've been impressed with most is there has been no panic, no huge change of system, just a slight tinker with the midfield but he has stuck to his principles.

I love the style of football we're trying to play, we'll have a few stinkers with it at times, we'll get hammered a few times, but mostly we'll be competing and giving out some thrilling batterings, and he'll get our young players involved. That will do me for now until he has another couple of transfer Windows under his belt.

He still has plenty of work to do, and we need to be more clinical and tighter at the back, but I believe he'll get there.

Jury still out on the manager for me.

Big churn of players when Pellegrini came in but defensive midfielder and adequate full backs were not addressed effectively.

Wait and see but we still need a couple of players in.

Don't rate Rice who he moved there then? Was said all trogh summer that was the plan

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Rice is cooking nicely but for me he needs long term help. We need someone else available who is a step up from Noble, Obiang and Sanchez.

Wilshire I assume is his plan

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Was really disappointed with his first game, playing way to attacking against Liverpool, Fredericks and Masuaku we're the wrong choice and we were hammered.

I like the style he's trying to play, quick possession based football and it's slowly developing. Been some good performances and some bad. The Anderson signing is still to prove completely fruitful, but I have faith that it will. Diop, Fabianski, Rice, Zabaleta and Arnautovic all excellent so far, Snodgrass deserves a mention too.

So far about a 6/10, but I expect it to get better as the season goes on.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Rice has done well as a defensive midfielder but we need another young-ish mobile defensive midfielder with a bit of zip and tenacity to play alongside him.

Obiang is a good squad player and I still think we need another one in there...maybe the scout that spotted Diop needs to get on the case!

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Surprised more didnt point the finger at him before saturday. He spent £100M and wasnt getting a tune out of the players. Picked wrong teams and made wrong substitutions at times. Didnt address the CDM issue and start of season we couldnt defend for shit. Also we didnt really turn up for either Spurs game......huge X against him for that.

However they keep playing like they did on saturday and id have no complaints about him at all. Also like him bringing in 2 very good centre backs, the emergence of Diagana and us looking to play a decent style of football. Im not fully convinced, but more warming to him after seeing a display like i did on sat

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
He identified Rice as our DM when he first arrived at the club, Sanchez was only brought in as back up.

The main thing I like about him is that no matter what's going on he doesn't panic, doesn't listen to hysteria and sticks to his vision.

Unlike the hysterical bollocks most of our fans seem to enjoy so much.

I think he has done a fantastic job

When was the last time we played football as good as this ?.

He's been unlucky with injuries that's for sure

The 3 defensive signings he has made, 2 CBs and keeper, have been top notch.

I;m not so sure he wanted Fredericks, but the movement of Rice to DM and to blood the youngsters has been hugely encouraging.

We always needed at lest 3 transfer windows for him to really make his mark.

Judge him better after those

Got things working. Massive improvements in style of play and actual play from the first few weeks. Not afraid to ditch non performers and try other things- SNodgrass and Diangana for example. Both have shone.

Players look much better and more confident on the ball/going forward.

Still needs to get more from Anderson, but it looks like it's coming.

Made our two central defenders a fearsome duo. We still need a left back and Zabaleta can't go on forever despite being brilliant so far.

Overall after a worrying start and some bad injury issues, it's looking to come together very well at the moment and it feels like we're going to get better. Good job.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
prob 2 or 3 points of where we should be, but not bad considering the start we had.

the longer the season goes on the more the team should gel. would be nice to win a few on the bounce.

An articulate gentleman who understands football and how it should be played. Clearly a great coach and we're lucky to have him if I'm honest.

Re: Current opinions on Pellegrini
Good balanced comments on this thread.

Agree with comma and others that full backs and midfield still need strengthening. Full backs is the most urgent as Cresswell / Arfur are not the answer at left back and an injury to Zab and we rely on Fredericks who like Arfur seems suited to a 3 at the back set up not 4?

Central midfield is as mentioned below more about strength and depth in the squad. Rice was not convincing early on at CDM but has grown into the role but again who replaces him if he gets injured?

Special mention to Snodgrass who I and many had written off. He got himself fit and is motivated to prove he can play in the top division. But the move to a central role might be the making of him. He aint super quick but his "terrier like" running and closing is really helping and Noble should be behind him for the central role currently IMO.

Pellegrini worried me after those first few games. But even at my ripe old age I need to be a little more patient.

He needs time to change the culture and philosophy of the club and implement a longer term view or dare I say strategy but it looks like we are on the start of that journey. Will he be given the time and continued financial backing from the owners because it will take a fair few transfer windows to see what we might term a "step up to the next level".
